Broken garage door spring? This is the most common repair we do. We replace torsion and extension springs fast, usually the same day you call. We always replace springs in pairs so they wear evenly and your door stays balanced. After every spring job, we balance the door, lubricate the moving parts, and test the safety system.
Garage door springs are the heavy-duty coils that do the real work of lifting your door. A standard two-car garage door can weigh 200 to 400 pounds. The springs carry almost all of that weight. There are two types: torsion springs that mount above the door, and extension springs that run along the tracks on each side. When one breaks, the door becomes too heavy to lift.
You need spring replacement when you hear a loud bang from the garage, when the door feels extremely heavy, or when the door only opens a few inches and stops. If you see a gap in the coil above your door, that means the spring snapped. Do not try to open the door with a broken spring. The opener is not strong enough to lift it alone and you could damage the motor.
We need access to the garage and the area above the door where the springs are mounted. The door should stay closed until we get there. Broken springs are under extreme tension and are dangerous to handle without the right tools and training. We bring everything we need. Most spring replacements take about an hour from start to finish.
